The Toy TV Remote is a chunky plastic handset for babies from twelve months, from the Polish brand Dumel Discovery. Nine numbered buttons, a four-way direction pad and a black ball at the fat end that turns. It speaks and counts, and everything it says is in Polish.
Why this remote works for a baby who wants the real one
- It is the size and shape of a television remote, which is the thing a baby at this age keeps reaching for off the arm of the sofa.
- Nine round buttons printed 1 to 9, alternating black and grey, each one big enough for a whole fingertip.
- A four-way direction pad around a central button, and the box says pressing it names right, left, up and down out loud.
- The black ball at the wide end turns in the hand, and the box says it plays either nature sounds or the sound of a sports stadium.
- A slider on the side chooses between the spoken words and music instead.
- A red translucent lens is moulded into the tip, and the box marks the toy for both light and sound.
